Changes for 2011
In January of 2010, OpenRep the trademark was absorbed into the company of Polony and Weaver (P & W).
Vladimir Polony (M.Sc., D.hommed I.H.M.) had studied homoeopathy in Slovakia, and also was a software developer for a moderately well known European computer repertory company. He left there and developed OpenRep as a useful tool for the homoeopathic community. From those early days, many advancements along the way occurred. In meeting Gary Weaver, Vladimir undertook to update his skills as a practitioner. Many false premises were discarded and intense study of the sources began to produce a well rounded practitioner in his own right. Vladimir is one of those people who can read a technical book and learn a whole new programming language by the end of the final chapter. His skills were utilized fully in the development of the Repertory program.
Gary Weaver DO, rM.D., DHomMed (IHM), HA (Delhi), MCCH (Eng), HBBC (Ind), F(Hon)HIS (Syd) began his studies in Homœopathy in 1979, training in England and India. He co-founded the Manchester College of Classical Homœopathy in 1987. He founded the Leeds College of Classical Homœopathy in 1989, and the Institute for Homœopathic Medicine in Dublin (Ireland) in 1990, and opened the Kuopio Homœopathic Education and Research Association (Finland) in the same year (1990). Gary has taught and lectured extensively, in England, Ireland, India, Finland, and Australia. One of the original members of the Hahnemann Institute of Sydney’s team in the 1990’s who undertook a revision of Boenninghausens work, but due to relocation and other commitments had to pull out of the project. In 2002/3, Gary Weaver undertook a mission to visit American Libraries and Institutes and read the original works in the original print of the first editions. In doing this, it became apparent that several of the key commonly accepted tenets of the homoeopathic community were in gross error. Being able to read the original documentation lay to rest any argumentation for the falsehood to be continued and propagated. This insight, plus the joy of seeing the text as originally printed, was the basis of the development of the soon to be released ARCHIVES program by P & W.
The collaboration of Polony and Weaver has produced numerous benefits to the homoeopathic community. Thousands of people use the repertories. With the company’s pledge to only produce repertories of usefulness, there has been no inclination to market many modern repertories, which research has shown compound many of the original errors by multiple additions without checking original sources for accuracy, or by mixing clinical symptoms and spurious Materia Medica entries.
Polony and Weaver spent many thousands of hours utilizing the original handwritten notes and first German print edition of the 1846 Therapeutic pocket book by Boenninghausen in order to reproduce an accurate facsimile from the German language into English. Along the way, Vladimir, as lead translator, had to research many medical books of the time (German) in order to get the correct understanding of the terminology used. We then would spend hours comparing notes and then put the phrases into working English for the Pocket book. The work was painstaking and involved intense discussion over clinical symptoms.
Vladimir and Gary use the TPB almost exclusively in their practice. They have researched the methodology, seen the benefits and the patients have reaped the rewards from Boenninghausens comprehension of Hahnemann’s work.
Of recent date, P & W had the intense privilege of being aided with the translation into Spanish by Dr Jose Guillermo Zamora De La Paz and his charming English teacher wife Hilda. Jose, a respected medical physician in Mexico, has been interested in the application of homoeopathy for several years, and has seen the benefits of using the TPB firsthand, and without hesitation offered his services for the production of the TPB in his native language. The accuracy of the work is outstanding and their kindness and love for homoeopathy can still brings a tear to the eye when thinking of them.
In the beginning of 2011. P & W will release the new Repertory Suite, (with new repertories), the 1846 T.P.B. in German, English and Spanish with footnotes will be released, and a Worlds First, new program called ARCHIVES.
Based on the necessity to work from source materials for total accuracy, plus the joy of seeing the original views, P & W, developed a program to do just this, Vladimir designed from the ground up, the facility to view original documents with a search capability. Want to see the 3rd edition of the Organon in German? No problem. Want to research a Journal entry from 1872 regarding a certain topic? No problem. These are not text copies of the works, these are the facsimiles of the original documents. We have an ongoing program of collecting these copies from around the world and are releasing them periodically on DVD to build your homeopathic library. This will be the essential educational tool for learning and researching. Please see our videos for more information.
So welcome to the new P & W Company maintaining centuries old tradition.
Homoeopathy Today
Why Polony and Weaver are making the ARCHIVES and putting together a practitioner sources and case analysis training module.
Realities.
If you take the time to compile a list of practitioners who have assumed, or have been given the elevated status of homoeopathic teacher/guru in the international community, and there are many of them, a brief look through their teachings will show at a glance what positional stance they take in regard to the Organon and the practice of medicine in general. The criteria I have developed over the years is a simple one for listening to them in a seminar, is just to see what knowledge they have in the source material and how it is presented and utilised in practice. Despite protestations to the contrary, and public affirmations of being “classical”, Eight minutes listening how a person practices will be all that is required to be disappointed in general.
The above statement is not based on anything other than a reading of the source materials of our medical science. Not on prejudice or bias, not on hyper critical evaluation, no, just the facts. As this is the reality of the current situation, I would proffer the hypothesis that the system we are enmeshed in today has failed and will continue to fail the student.
Please do not think that I have elevated myself to the position of charismatic teacher. I dont see myself as anything else than a homoeopathic practitioner self studied in the original materials of our profession. My ability to practice homoeopathy has been formulated, distilled and refined solely by the source material along with clinical observation during treatments. In saying this, There is a fairly structured knowledge of the source materials and an ability to relay this information in a teaching situation. I have been doing this for over 25 years.
The necessity of having a clear foundational instruction in the tenets of homoeopathic practice seems to have been removed in favour of hearsay and so called improved practice applications, ie, whatever is taught today in the name of homoepathy. Homoeopathy is the ONLY practice of medicine that I have encountered where persons uneducated in the facts of their profession can be seen as masters of understanding. Its the quasi spiritual infiltration of non sequitur that allows it.
Education of students will only begin when the teachers learn their facts accurately, unprejudiced and with a willingness to dispense truthfulness. With the likelyhood of this occurring being nil, it would seem that a whole new school of teachers need to arrive on the scene.
Education starts with a group sitting down with Hahnemanns pre Organon writings and tracing the development of his thinking. By the time a students gets to the Organon, a clear and detailed logic has emerged that is not present in anyone who has not studied the works. The study of Materia Medica is a study of Hahnemanns application of the law of the homoeopathic principle. It is his method, and if practiced must be studied diligently as to both the reason for it and the understanding of how and why and when. Any shortcut or alternative method of application has already been experimented with by Hahnemann, and the reasons for failure that a student experiences has been addressed. Its a waste of time to reinvent the wheel.
Practitioners quit the practice of homoeopathy simply because they have never learned it, practiced real homoeopathy or comprehended the medical directives.
For this reason, and because I tried in the past, I no longer will be part of the existing system for training students. I will not support the program that insists a student knows periodic tables and the sensation theory in order to pass an exam for a licence to practice. This is the ultimate travesty.
Lines have been drawn. Perhaps we need to recognise them and accept the division and regain the ground lost by acknowledging the problem and opposing it. Its already too late for any other course. Compromise never works when one side has to lose principles.
Most asked Question
As much as we would love to help with suggestions, we cannot give advice for treatment without going through the consultation process. (see http://homoeopathsonline.com for details). Vladimir and myself have private clinics, one in California, and mine in Florida although we tend to do international on line consultations mainly these days using SKYPE. Our work is time consuming and we have to prioritize in order to keep the momentum rolling.
Archives Progress
So far the process of adding new material to the Archives is going well. The P & W project is looking good with the final tweaks being added to the engine. We have thousands and thousands of copies of original material to add over time.
We are looking at the ultimate in research tools here. Having all the documents collected together in a truly searchable and readable format from the original documents is a dream come true.
The P & W Repertory In Spanish
Vladimir and Gary wish to acknowledge and offer our grateful thanks to the Hispanic members of our team based in Mazatlán Sinaloa (Northwest of México).
We are eternally indebted to Dr José Guillermo Zamora De La Paz and his lovely wife Hilda Rocío Padilla Reyes, both born and raised in Zamora, Michoacán (In the Occident of México) who have done an outstanding and amazing feat in translating the P & W repertory into the Spanish language.
Hilda is a Teacher of English and her skills in the translation department were essential to the project. Dr Jose is a respected and experienced medical Doctor in the community and a keen student of Homoeopathy, who put his heart into getting the accurate clinical meaning of every rubric.
Dr José Guillermo Zamora De La Paz will shortly begin testing the repertory in his clinic in the Spanish language and we will fine tune the translation prior to release very shortly.
Thank you both so very much.
Gary Weaver. D.O., D. hom. med.
How and why The ARCHIVES came into being.
The ARCHIVES came about from a desire to see and handle original material For those of us who love books and love the search for details contained within the ancient manuscripts, it is a pleasure to gently turn the pages and examine the original texts.
Sadly, within our profession, the ability to do this is hampered by the all too few books and the fact that they are hidden away in Libraries and museums scattered around the world.
In talking with our colleagues, the thrill of discovery was always noted when finding an answer to a particular question tucked away in a little known book, or an earlier edition with the original unedited text.
So long story short.. Vlad took a couple of documents and scanned them. Originally we had planned to render the pages into text, but Vladimir spent some time writing routines that allowed the search of the original documents and suggested we leave them as they were, and he would figure out all the issues related to the original medium.
I cannot begin to tell you how much better it is searching through the pages as originally published. There is a tremendous sense of affinity with the style and presentation, and a feeling of discovery, almost as if you belong to a select few who have seen these documents. From a research point of view, what you see is what you get, No extra editors or copyists between you and the original version.
